Outreach:  (needs a Chairperson and committee members)


WANTED:  An energetic, enthusiastic, UU member with strong marketing skills to chair our Outreach Committee!  This person’s responsibilities would include gathering a group of energetic volunteers from among our UU congregation to tell our story to our community.  This committee is vital to our continued growth.  We want Murfreesboro and our surrounding communities to know who we are.  And, we want to invite them to join us.  If you have experience in publishing, advertising, building and maintaining websites, or creating new and exciting ways of reaching others, please let us know of your interest in leading this committee.

 Outreach Committee Responsibilities:

•    Marshals efforts to get people to cross the threshold
•    Advertises and markets programs strategically
•    Identifies growth trends and provides data to (and coordinates with) other committees to meet future needs
•    Builds relationships in the community

We need gracious hosts to welcome guests to our UU.  As we continue to grow, this role will be more and more important!  If you’d like to lead a team of volunteers—provide them with schedules and direction, coordinate services with other committees—we need you!

Hospitality Responsibilities:  Solicit volunteers for a committee to

•    Help us build and maintain relationships with those who have crossed our threshold
•    Handle refreshments (set up and take down)
•    Greet visitors (goal is to greet new visitors at least three times per Sunday)
•    Set up registration table (name tags, guest register) and return to storage after service
•    Choose lunch destination and communicate to speaker
•    Follow up with visitors (phone call) the week following the service
•    Send visitor contact information to Secretary (Edie) to add to mailing list the week following the service
•    Committee members may handle these responsibilities and may solicit volunteers from the congregation to assist them.


Facilities:  (needs a Chairperson and committee members)

Be the person who makes it happen!  Can you imagine what it would be like if we arrived on Sunday morning, and there were neither chairs nor chalice?  We need someone to coordinate volunteers so that we are ready for our members and guests every Sunday.

Responsibilities:  Solicit volunteers (willing to arrive early and stay a little later!) for a committee to

•    Open and set up (put out signs, set up the altar, chairs, sound equipment, tables, name tags, and any other needs)
•    Set up pamphlets and distribute programs
•    Take down signs, chairs, altar, etc. after the service and lock up
•    Address security and/or weather related needs (rock salt on icy stairs, water in the hallway, etc.)

                        
Finance:  (needs a Chairperson - Jim Howard and Royce Price will serve on the committee)

Responsibilities:  Solicit volunteers for a committee to:

•    Prepare and submit budget proposals for members to review and approve annually
•    Oversee budget process and handle disbursements
•    Maintain giving records and pledges (if applicable)
•    Distribute statements of giving annually
•    Maintain 501(3)(c) status and related IRS and government filings
•    Collect gifts

Responsibilities:  Creating a committee of people who are

•    a conduit of information to share with the congregation (members who need our thoughts due to joys/concerns/life events)
•    a resource for members who need help (First Call—United Way, Hotline, etc.) or for special circumstances of members
•    able to handle calls/visits to members in need


Education:  Chair:  Edie Urness-Pondillo epondillo@aol.com- (Members: Holly Harwood, Sean Harwood, Sara Mitchell, Rychi Watson, Sara Mitchell) Need for teachers, substitute teachers and childcare providers

Responsibilities:  Leads a committee of members who

•    oversee instruction of children and youth RE
•    monitor quality
•    develop direction and content in cooperation with UU board and Chairman



 Program:  Chair: Diane Scearce - pscearce@comcast.net
Members: Bob Pondillo, Jerry Bailey, Jill Austin, Gretchen Webber, Edie Urness-Pondillo, Ken Johnson, Phil Scearce

 Responsibilities:  Leads a committee who

•    Establish program topics and themes
•    Identify speakers and review quality and content
•    Provide program/order of service information to volunteers to produce printed programs
          


Music:  Elroy Sullivan has volunteered to coordinate the choir (singers and committee members needed)

We need someone to coordinate our music program. 
•    If you have a gift for music and are willing to work with our volunteer chorus and musicians, would you please let Bob and Edie know? 
•    We need a creative person lead a committee to locate music, find a choir director, audition musicians and singers, and help us secure instruments and equipment. 
•    If you’d like to be rewarded by the sound of music, please see Bob or Edie.

Do you sing?  Did you play in your high school band?  Or did you have a band in your parents’ garage?  If you have talent you’re willing to share—even if it is to sing quietly as part of a chorus—let’s make some beautiful noise together!

•    Maintain the membership roster
•    Update information regularly
•    Create and publish a directory
•    Coordinate with Outreach and Hospitality to help visitors find their way to membership and involvement.

NEEDED:  A Social Conscience!  

Responsibilities:

•    Serve as a conduit for information on social and community issues, keeping us informed about opportunities to become involved and provide us with resources to learn more
•    Maintain an unbiased and apolitical position so that members can decide where they stand individually
•    Share information about members’ involvement in social issues (for example, Mitsue’s involvement in the Alzheimer’s Walk, or Angie’s involvement in watershed preservation)
•    Be a funnel from the greater UU organization and other UU congregations to our membership on social justice issues
